Cold vs. hot beverages
The competitors for drinks market share (referring to non-alcoholic drinks) are on one side milk and hot drinks and on the other side, cold beverages especially iced tea.
Milk sold on the market has vitamin D added to it to make up for lack of exposure to UVB radiation. There are various flavors added to milk for better taste or to improve sales. You can find chocolate flavored milk (the most sold), strawberry and banana.
Statistics show that South Australia has the highest consumption of flavored milk per person.
But consumption of cow′s milk and its byproducts is reported as "unhealthy" primarily due to their high saturated fat and cholesterol content (it contains on average, 3.4% protein, 3.6% fat and 4.6% lactose). On the other hand, 250 ml of 2% fat milk contains 285 mg of calcium which represents 22% to 29% of the daily recommended intake of calcium for an adult. It also contains vitamin D, B12, K, A, iodine, riboflavin, biotin, pantothenic acid, potassium and magnesium.
V.I.P of all cold beverages is like we said iced tea. It comes in many different flavors, but the most common is Iced Tea with Lemon. Many different companies sell Iced Tea. In Europe, Nestea and Lipton are the main brands and in America Snapple and Lipton are common.
If you do not like the commercial iced tea, you can prepare yourself the perfect tea you desire. Just follow the instructions:
Ingredients: a teabag, sugar, lemon juice, a spoon and a glass.
Directions: make the tea as usual, by boiling the kettle but do not put the teabag in the glass. Pour the water on to the teabag (let the water cool just a little bit in case the glass smashes) and do not make the tea too strong. You can add now the lemon juice and sugar.
A statistic made by a dedicated website shows the fact that tea is the world′s most popular drink at 57 liters per person in 2005, followed by milk and carbonates.
Other important categories are the soft drinks (carbonated drinks) for kids, bottled water and fruit juices. Because of their popularity, the position of milk on the market was weakened. Also, the cold beverages are slowing down the place of hot drinks.
So, you can easily notice that cold beverages are most wanted, while hot drinks do not have so many fans. But, they still got some....
